Getting your project onto GitHub

Where your code lives, how to get it into your own GitHub repo, and what the route without GitHub looks like.

GitHub is optional. You can work with AdenAI without ever having heard of it. But if you want the code in your own hands, you get it.

Two routes

Without GitHub (default). The code lives in your project workspace on our side. AdenAI creates a local Git repository there and records every ticket as its own commit. You see the result in the preview and can download everything as a ZIP at any time. No pull request, no push, because there is nowhere to push to.

With your own GitHub repo. You store your repository address on the project. AdenAI then works inside it: a branch per ticket, a pull request at the end, merged straight away. The code is yours, it lives in your account, and it stays there even if you stop using us.

Connecting your repo

  1. Create a repository on GitHub if you do not have one.
  2. Open Einstellungen (Settings) on the project.
  3. In the GitHub card, enter the SSH address into the field Repository-Adresse (Repository address), the form git@github.com:yourname/my-project.git, not the https:// one.
  4. Speichern (Save).

There is no separate switch next to it. The stored address is the switch. As long as one is in that field, AdenAI backs up there after every ticket. Empty the field and save, and it stops. We never create a repository ourselves.

From the next ticket onwards, AdenAI pushes into your repo.

Write access is still manual

For AdenAI to write into your repository, our server needs access to it. There is no button for that in the dashboard yet: the step where you grant us permission is missing (a deploy key, or inviting our server account to your repo). Without it the push fails and the ticket ends up as "Failed".

If you want to use your own repo during the beta, message us in support. We set up access by hand, it takes a few minutes.

Locked during the trial

GitHub sync and the ZIP download are switched off during the trial and unlock with a paid plan. You can look at everything, but taking it with you comes later.

Connecting your GitHub account

Linking your GitHub account to your AdenAI account is a separate thing: it lets you sign in with GitHub. That happens in the onboarding step GitHub verbinden (Connect GitHub), or later under Profil (Profile), Anmeldewege (Sign-in methods).

GitHub sign-in is not live yet

We have not registered our OAuth app with GitHub yet. Mit GitHub anmelden (Sign in with GitHub) and GitHub verbinden therefore lead nowhere. Use email and password in the meantime. This does not affect the backup itself, which depends on the repo address and the access grant, not on how you sign in.

Connecting an empty repo

If you connect a freshly created, completely empty GitHub repository, it stays empty at first: AdenAI only seeds starter templates into projects without their own repo, so that nothing you did not ask for ends up in yours. In that case make your first ticket an explicit "set up the basic structure", or leave the repo out and connect it later.

Taking the code without GitHub

The project settings have a card Code-Export (Code export) with the button Als ZIP herunterladen (Download as ZIP): a ZIP with the current state of all project files. That is a complete project you can carry on building on your own machine or host elsewhere. It contains no credentials. Those stay encrypted with us and have to be set again wherever you move to.
